  • investigate grant funding to enable internships for LIS minority students, faculty fellowship programs in CUNY Libraries, etc.
  • engage more productively with New York metropolitan area library schools
  • encourage CUNY library support staff to consider pursuing MLS training
  • address promoting harmonious and productive relations between library faculty and support staff in CUNY Libraries

Statement of Solidarity and Support

The CUNY Council of Chief Librarians and the Office of Library Services condemn racial violence and police brutality perpetrated against Black Americans. Racism is rampant in our country and is often embedded in educational curriculum, policy and procedures, and hiring practices.

We stand in solidarity and support of our Black colleagues and students, and commit to active anti-racist work in librarianship and higher education within and beyond CUNY.

We endorse the Statement Condemning Increased Violence and Racism Towards Black Americans and People of Color issued by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.

Signed,
CUNY Council of Chief Librarians
CUNY Office of Library Services
