New York Times Academic Pass

CUNY students, faculty, and staff can access The New York Times' complete digital content—normally $17/month—at no cost through the Academic Pass program. This institutional subscription, courtesy of the CUNY Libraries, provides free access to NYTimes.com and mobile apps for the entire CUNY community.

Already have a personal NYT subscription? Read the restrictions section below before canceling to ensure the Academic Pass meets your needs.

1. Visit the NY Times registration page: URL: nytimes.com/digitalpass
2. Create your account: Click Create Account and use your @*.cuny.edu, @cuny.edu, or @cuny.tv email address
3. Handle existing accounts: If you already have a NYTimes account linked to your CUNY email:
   • Log in to your existing account
   • Click your username (top right) > My Account
   • Replace your CUNY email with a personal email address
   • Return to step 2 to register with your CUNY email
4. Verify your email: Check for a confirmation message within 15 minutes
   • Click the verification link to activate your 52-week Academic Pass
   • Check spam folders if the email doesn't arrive
   • Still no email? Contact edu@nytimes.com from your CUNY email

Your Academic Pass provides 364 days of full access. After your pass expires, simply visit the NY Times registration page: URL: nytimes.com/digitalpass again to renew for another year—no need to create a new account.

If you are hitting article limits, you're likely not logged in. Simply log back into your account to restore full access.

Your Academic Pass works on NYTimes mobile apps and any web-capable device once registered.

Not included with Academic Pass:

• Print newspaper delivery
• Premium Crosswords subscription
• NYTimes Games mobile app
• Limited access to articles from 1923-1980*

Cancel if you only need basic digital access to current articles and standard features.

• Annual subscribers receive prorated refunds
• Monthly subscribers are charged through the current billing period

Important: Cancel your personal subscription only after successfully registering for the Academic Pass to avoid any service disruptions.
