YuJa is a content management system for uploading and sharing videos. It is used to store and share video files, similar to other video sharing services like YouTube or Vimeo. Users can upload individual videos and/or create collections to group related content together. The platform offers the option for videos to either be streamed via its HTML5 media player or downloaded. YuJa also allows for videos to be made publicly available or limited to campus users only.
YuJa also has several tools for making videos accessible. Most notably, these include tools for uploading transcripts and auto-generating closed captions. This captioning technology also allows for users to edit auto-generated scripts.
In contrast to other services like YouTube, YuJa is ad-free, which makes for a more seamless experience for end users and has a “search inside” function that allows users to search for specific moments or phrases during videos.
YuJa also helps support the online learning experience at the campuses that use it by allowing integration to Blackboard via LTI. This feature allows faculty to upload videos from YuJa directly to courses and make it easier for students to discover and access relevant video course materials.
YuJa is subscription-base and is presently being utilized by several CUNY institutions. For those not yet subscribing but who are considering this service, you can request a quote here.
