About Mapping

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are driving forces behind the explosion in Digital Humanities as well as other types of digital scholarship projects. Mapping or GIS systems enable scholars and students alike to ask new kinds of questions, and to illustrate the answers in powerful ways. The guide "Geographic Information System and Data Visualization Applications" created by Librarian Miriam Deutch provides an overview of popular GIS platforms, both proprietary and open access. The site summarizes the degree of difficulty involved in using various mapping platforms, discusses support available for users and gives links to training and tutorials freely available on the internet.
